COHIBA SPECTRE 2019 REVIEW – CALIFORNIA
Summary: There's a sweetness on the cold draw that reminds me of Frosted Flakes. Upon lighting, cinnamon joins the sweet corn flakes. Cedar and more baking spices.
Floral notes show up in the second third making this stick more than good. The sweetness in this thing is legit. Milk chocolate.
Final third kicks off with maple syrup. Nearing the end, bright notes of lavender and Italian parsley make this cigar GREAT!
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Being quarantined with plenty of books, cigars, and whiskey.
Pairing Suggestion: Coffee.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Box.
COHIBA SPECTRE 2019 REVIEW – WISCONSIN
Summary: This cigar brought notes of oak, chocolate, cereal grain, earth, and slight pepper. It left a lot of honey-like sweetness on my lips. Like a lot; it overwhelmed the other flavors more than I would have liked.
The burn and draw were both problem-free, though I had to cut deeper a few times to get it to draw. Once I did, it had no issues at all.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Sweet earth.
Pairing Suggestion: Bourbon.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: Single.
COHIBA SPECTRE 2019 REVIEW – OREGON
Summary: Dark and slightly oily is the wrapper description for this smoke. The color reminds me of A-1 steak sauce...which I love. Raisins mulled in rum...right off the wrapper.
The cold draw is really loose and the cap is sweet. Interesting. Ok, charred oak, dark earth, toasted pumpkin seeds...(sidebar, the room smoke off this stick is amazingly aromatic), black coffee with sugar, burnt oatmeal cookies...I mean every flavor is dark, complex, borderline bitter, but still good.
Somewhere in the first half things mellowed out. Wood notes, cream, leather, mild tobacco and a nice hint at baking spices build the mix. The retro hale smoke is smooth with leather, walnut, a touch of sweetness and heat I’d describe as “wasabi style”.
Wood notes remain joined by mild coffee flavors, a touch more heat in the profile, burnt toast and walnuts.
If You Like That, You Might Like This: Cigars that pique your interest to try more.
Pairing Suggestion: Bourbon on rocks.
Purchase Recommendation to a Friend: 5 pack.
Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
