LOS CAIDOS REVIEW – CALIFORNIA

Summary:  Starting out with buttered toast.  White/green pepper, citrus, and cherry give this cigar some color.  The ash is a little flaky, but holds on nonetheless.

Second third kicks off with coconut and a touch of caramel.  Floral notes.  The ash is getting a bit wild now but at least it's not affecting the burn line too much.  Mint chocolate!

Had to relight as I enter the final third.  Flavors are a bit more nuanced at the end, but still enjoyable.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Tripping over your feet and realizing that no one saw.

Pairing Suggestion:  Bourbon.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Fiver.

Blind Cigar Reviews at Small Batch Cigar

LOS CAIDOS REVIEW – WISCONSIN

Summary:  Sometimes I smoke a cigar and think, 'I don't think every puff of this cigar is what the blender intended.' That was the case with this particular cigar. There were moments of greatness, and moments that left me scratching my head. I'm very interested in trying another to see if that was a one-off issue.

For flavors, it started with cereal grain, then morphed into pepper, cream, and earth, with nuttiness on the retro hale. Coffee increased throughout the cigar, and chocolate made appearances. Floral notes also appeared in the second half. Overall, the cigar was dominated by earthy, coffee, peppery notes. It occasionally came off as dry or unbalanced; more sweetness would have helped it out.

The burn needed some corrections, but the draw was perfect. It also had quite a bit of smoke output, if that's something you like.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Rollercoasters.

Pairing Suggestion:  Rum.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Single.

LOS CAIDOS REVIEW – OREGON

Summary:  This cigar is a medium brown color and has a slightly reddish hue to it. The wrapper leaf is very smooth, and the seams are actually pretty well hidden. The cold draw is perfect and taste like milk chocolate and dry hay.

To begin, I’m getting an overall salty tasting profile which is interesting.  Wood notes, honey, some baking spice and a hint of black pepper get things started. In retro hale, raw honey, leather and a decent pepper blast definitely heat up the sinuses. Near the end of the first 1/3, a small tunnel appears.  The draw and smoke production are seriously suffering.

At the midway mark, the profile has become very creamy and includes coffee, leather, cashew and a dash of salt.  The retro hale smoke is smooth as well carrying notes of bread and milk chocolate.

Near the end of this stick and the saltiness is ramping up, really putting a negative spin on the profile.  Cream, coffee, dry hay and mild tobacco would all be really nice...without the salt.

If You Like That, You Might Like This:  Chess... against a champion.

Pairing Suggestion:  A rum with a sweet profile.

Purchase Recommendation to a Friend:  Single.

Participants in this blind review were completely unaware of the cigar they were evaluating until all submissions were received and processed. Each participant was asked to answer a summary paragraph, an if/than statement, a pairing suggestion, and a purchase suggestion. Cigars were provided by Small Batch with only the expectations of candid responses. All pictures, information, and formatting were completed by a Coordinator outside of the reviewing process.
