Cigar of the Week: Diesel Vintage Natural Rabito

Cigar of the Week: Diesel Vintage Natural Rabito

Remember those cigars that you know will age beautifully from the first puff? That’s the Diesel Vintage Natural for me, even though it’s already been aged. There’s strength and elegance in every puff so far, along with a flavor profile that’s every bit as decadent as it is bold.

I’m tasting salted caramel, leather, exotic spices, pepper, and an underlying vanilla sensation that reminds me of old books. The smoke is chewy and dense with a bready quality to it. The decision to use aged tobaccos (5-7 years) in the filler makes for a delightful experience that simultaneously tastes like aged and punchy tobacco. All in all, I can’t think of a better blend for a brand called Diesel Vintage! It’s the best of both worlds.

One of my favorite blends by AJ in the past remains the San Lotano Oval Habano. Back when they were available, you could forget about them in your humidor for a while and be handsomely rewarded with an incredible blast from the past that tastes like a million bucks. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s wishful thinking, but this Diesel Vintage Natural Rabito is reminding me quite a bit of the Oval Habano with golden-brown cellophane.

Dropping the first ash, a cashew and ganache combo hits me right in the face! Today is the first day in some time that hasn’t been scorchingly hot outside, and I’m so thankful that I waited patiently to light up my first Vintage Natural. In a world where everything seems to move faster and faster, I just want to slow down and appreciate this cigar. I’m enjoying the Rabito (Lonsdale) size, and would love to know if you have any experience with the other sizes!

I’ve been hosting Sunday brunches at home for family and friends this year, and normally we’ll head outside afterward and light up a cigar. I usually try and cater the experience towards the person, trying to find something that I think will pique their interest and fit their wheelhouse. I can’t wait to bring out a box of these soon to hear their thoughts. This is a bourbon-and-bubbles brunch cigar if I’ve ever seen one! And, I think there’s something for everyone here.

Thank you for this cigar of the week review. I have always been a fan of diesel cigars and the idea of a diesel which boasts aged tobacco I found quite appealing, along with the flavor notes you stated. Anyways I purchased a box of the double corona vitola, 7 3/4 X 49! Wow! It was way too hot to smoke the whole thing, but I thoroughly enjoyed the flavor, mouthfeel, and draw.

Thanks so much for leaving a comment, Parker! So glad you enjoyed it. I think these are exceptional cigars and now I've gotta try the Double Corona vitola too lol
