Cigar of the Week: Killer Bee Connecticut

Cigar of the Week: Killer Bee Connecticut

Howdy folks!

Isn’t it a great Thursday? As I stare at this beautiful Killer Bee Connecticut from James Brown of Black Works Studio, I’m reminded of this time last year when I completely missed the boat on ordering some.

I’m not sure what happened, but somewhere between seeing it hit the New Arrivals and contemplating the purchase – poof they were gone!  And that was sad, because Small Batch is the only option that I consider when shipping APO.

Fast forward to earlier in the week, I smoked my first Connie and was blown away.  An instant box purchase happened somewhere around the second third.  It was that damn good.

Killer Bee Connecticut Review

Today’s Killer Bee Connecticut begins with a heavy dose of black pepper over hints of dry earth,  cedar, and honey grahams in the background.  As the ash builds, pepper and earth subside until I’m tasting something akin to waffle cone with hints of espresso.  In fact, I even get a few puffs that remind me very much of Stroop Waffles with my coffee.  These moments make this cigar magical, in my humble opinion, and are exactly why I pulled the trigger on a box so quickly.

Dropping the long ash, pepper seems to have completely faded away near the midway point and I’m left with those glorious moments of waffle cone and honey contrasted by the bitterness of black coffee.

I’ll take my leave now and contemplate the rest of the cigar in solitude, but I’d love to hear your thoughts if you’ve smoked the Killer Bee Connecticut before!

Suggestions

While the obvious pairing choice is to pair this with coffee, I’d suggest getting more adventurous with this Killer Bee.  It seems to have more body than strength, and I’d imagine it would stand up to a great deal of choices and pair nicely.  Personally, I’ll be experimenting with Lagavulin 16 and Macallan 18 to try and tease out the sweeter tasting notes from this cigar.

If you haven’t experienced this cigar before, I’d love to highlight our Save the Bees sampler that includes the incredible Green Hornet, this Connecticut, and two very different La Colmena’s (the Beehive) from Warped Cigars.
