Discussion Contest: Social Media

Discussion Contest: Social Media

It’s been said that social media doesn’t truly represent the large majority of cigar buying habits around the country.  That, for the most part, social media is a small sliver of the industry with a significant portion of cigar enthusiasts buying their tried and true cigars each week regardless of the new hotness in the market.

Small Batch is a little bit of a different animal, though, as we exist on the interwebs which naturally encourages research and discussion.  This got me wondering:

How much does Social Media influence your cigar habits?

Login and comment below for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

Personally, I get a lot of my news from Social Media.  In addition to knowing what’s new at Small Batch, I also set notifications for manufacturers that I follow so that I can see what they’re up to without waiting for the official press release.

And, without a lounge that’s conveniently nearby, I’d say that I’m influenced quite a bit by social media when it comes to new cigars and what my friends are smoking.

To me, that’s the magic of the cigar industry – it brings people together!  And when I see a friend smoking something that I haven’t tried yet, I’m curious about his or her impressions and recommendations in addition to their lives.

Right this moment, I’m smoking a Foundation Tabernacle Havana Seed Ct #142 Double Corona.  It’s a monster of a cigar that I normally wouldn’t choose for the cold temps outside, but our very own Brian convinced me to give it a go on social media!  For what it’s worth, the original Tabernacle Double Corona was simply amazing in a Double Corona size – just like Melillo predicted – but I still think I prefer the #142 in a Corona size.  It isn’t as silky smooth as this Double Corona is but has a little more pop that I’ve come to cherish in the Corona vitola.

Tell Us whether or not social media influences your cigar habits…  And, while you’re at it, drop your handle if you’d like to connect!

It influences my purchase a great deal.  I do have a few favorites I always go for but I also like searching out the new thing.

Social media doesn’t really play into my cigar selection for two main reasons: (1) my cigars come to me randomly through the Small Batch COTM club, and (2) I tend to stick with something once I have enjoyed it. I do enjoy window shopping though.

Yes, it makes me want to try more things and therefore I end up spending more money here lol.

Most of the information I get are from online reviews and blogs that give updates on when the latest cigars are scheduled to be released. The majority of my purchases are from SBC, so I check the site at least once a day to see what's new.

Seeing what other people are smoking definitely makes me want to try more stuff. And it makes me aware of all the new releases I need to buy or the LEs I need to hunt down.

I enjoy keeping up to date with the latest blends and release from the brands I enjoy. I'm also a sucker for pictures of the growing and processing of cigar leaf.

It definitely makes me want to try new cigars which makes me spend more money here, but I still have my favorites that I like to stick too.

I am all over cigar social media. Best way to find out what is new and hot in my opinion. Love when companies are active and interact or even do contests/giveaways. I'd much rather support a company that I have a "connection" with and allows me to have an inside look at the brand through social media.

I'm not on social media often enough to follow people, however I like how a manufacturer can have a more personal relationship with the consumer.   I do notice extremely good or bad online reviews have an effect on my choice for something new.

I enjoy looking at what people are smoking and looking out for new releases. It doesn’t effect what I buy unless there is a big hype around a new release I may give it a try.

I definitely use social media to see what cigars are hot. I remember seeing Foundation’s el Gueguense, and wanting to try it. Lately I’ve been seeing the crook and the crown or something like that and I really want to try that. Recently I’ve seen a lot of black bird and viva la vida so I seemed those out to try them.

In short yes it does! At first I followed people who smoked crazy sticks that I wish I could grab. Did a clearing and follow people I enjoy interacting with and talking about cigars, and a lot if the brand leaders who are on IG. I'm at @smokesnaps on the Instagrams

I am not influenced by social media mostly because I'm not very good at it. The exception however is with podcasts. The majority of influences are my friends and my local brick and mortar.

I love cigar social media, it has helped me learn a lot about cigars.  Sure, there's some misinformation out there you need to be wary of... but for the most part... it's an excellent way to connect with others, stay informed and excited about new releases, and just adds to one of my favorite hobbies.

I still love following cigar social media, but I am learning to temper my spending choices to my favorite brands, sizes and retailers.

For me, even though I am pre internet, social media age, I have come to embrace social media as an indispensable tool in finding wonderful cigar blends, blenders, and an outlet for these both, such as small batch. Social media in general plays the largest role in what cigars I purchase over any other avenue of information. I dare say, I would not be smoking what I love to smoke without it.
