MSRP Showdown: Expensive Cigars vs. Affordable Alternatives

MSRP Showdown: Expensive Cigars vs. Affordable Alternatives

Have you ever wondered if the cigar you’re smoking has a more or less expensive counterpart?  Something that’s just a little bit better, or a bit easier on the wallet?

Today we’re pitting Titans of the industry against cigars that retail for at least 50% less.  Our goal is to highlight the similarities and differences between two cigars of comparable size, body, and profile.

Once you’ve smoked both of them, we’d love to hear your thoughts and which you prefer!

Davidoff Aniversario No. 2 vs. Patina Connecticut Churchill

We love this Aniversario for its creamy texture, delicate nuances, and consistent performance.  It’s one of those cigars that you can smoke with just a glass of water and have the time of your life.  Whether it’s first thing in the morning or after a hard day, this Davidoff can’t help but bring a smile to your face!

Cigar MSRP Showdown: Davidoff Aniversario No 2 vs Patina Connecticut Churchill

Davidoff Aniversario No. 2: $28.50

Patina Connecticut Churchill: $12.8

Patina’s Connecticut Churchill shares a lot of similarities with Davidoff’s Aniversario, namely that it’s an incredibly smooth, delectable Connecticut.  The nuances are more pronounced in this Churchill, which may be a selling point for many.  For a fraction of the cost, Patina’s Connecticut maintains a luxurious experience that is hard to beat at any price point.

Byron Elegantes vs. Bespoke Basilica #A Toro

There’s no doubt about it, Byron is one of the most Cubanesque cigars on the market today.  Byron is limited to small batches and is laid to rest for several years after the roll date, creating an experience that’s tough to beat.  This cigar commands your attention from start to finish, delivering intricate combinations of pepper, cedar, croissants, cream, citrus, nutmeg, almonds, and milk chocolate.

Cigar MSRP Showdown: Byron Elegantes vs Bespoke Basilica A Toro

Byron Elegantes: $33

Bespoke Basilica #A Toro: $16

If anything can go the distance with Byron, it’s Bespoke’s Basilica #A Toro.  This stick goes tit for tat with a similar body and strength, engaging transitions, complex tasting sensations, and a rich, chewy smoke.  If these two cigars squared off in a boxing match, it’d be a controversial decision after twelve rounds in which no group of smokers could agree on a clear winner.

Padron 1926 #47 Maduro vs. AJF New World Robusto

When you smoke Padron, you know it’s a Padron.  There’s not a lot out there that imitates their signature single cap, effortless draw, or iconic flavor profiles.  But if we focus on flavor alone, we believe AJ’s New World is a worthy contender in this space.

Cigar MSRP Showdown: Padron 1926 vs AJF New World Robusto

Padron 1926 #47 Maduro: $17

New World Robusto: $6.38

In fact, rumors were spoken in the past that his New World's price point was set to fire shots across Padron’s bow after a round of land disputes.  When A.J. was asked about this personally a couple years ago, he just smiled and puffed his cigar.  While this particular Padron always hits the spot, look to the New World to connect you with the same tempered spice, balanced profile, perfect construction, and consistent flavors.

Tell Us!  What did you think of these matchups?  What would you change, and which are your preferences?
