Cigar of the Week: Crux Limitada PB5 2017

Cigar of the Week: Crux Limitada PB5 2017

The initial impressions of this PB5 are of peanut shells, dark chocolate, pepper, and leather with a finish of pistachio that tastes much better than it sounds.  After just a few minutes, a creaminess settles in that creates the impeccable peanut butter flavor that this cigar was –hopefully-- named after.

When fresh, pepper used to charge out of the gate and take an inch or so to die down and get to the sweeter and more savory notes.  Now, pepper is playing a much more amiable role in this blend that compliments instead of contrasts.

One awesome thing about cigars is how fluid the tasting notes are.  Here the PB5 tastes like peanut butter, there it reminds me of cashew butter, and occasionally even peanut brittle.  Even after a couple years, this Crux Limitada still showcases nuanced, complex flavors that swirl around each other to create something slightly different in each puff.  Especially once hints of brown sugar kick in after the first third.

Leather also plays a vital role in this cigar, playing off of the nuttiness extremely well.  Most of the time it comes off as rough side out cattle leather, and really teases the senses in contrast to the overall creamy texture.

Crux Limitada PB5 2017 Review

PB5 always goes hard in the paint, pushing and pulling to create an Eye of the Hurricane effect of balanced flavors, textures, and aromas.  Just an incredible cigar to have in any humidor.

I believe this is where I’ll take my leave and ponder the rest of this beauty in isolation.  Cheers to a wonderful week ahead!

Suggestions

Luckily, we still have the Limitada PB5 2018 in stock as well as the special IPCPR release in a slightly smaller size and a belicoso-style head.  My personal preference leads towards the Limitada PB5, but be sure to try ‘em both if you haven’t yet!

If you enjoy the PB5 already, you might be interested to know that the IPCPR release, Redline, and Gunner all share the same Engañoso wrapper that’s exclusive to Crux Cigars.

For a pairing choice, I like to find something bitter to contrast this cigar.  Black coffee usually does the trick, but tons of stouts also work for my high-octane friends.  Another winner has always been Diplomatico, but I probably say that about every cigar (mostly because it’s true.)

Yep, one of my absolute favorites! I do give the smaller ICPR a slight edge, however. The flavors seem to be even more pronounced in that size.
