Cigar of the Week: Davidoff Mundano

Cigar of the Week: Davidoff Mundano

I decided to take a crack at Davidoff’s Mundano today, unsure of what to expect. Within minutes of lighting this beauty, however, I was convinced that it’s not only worthy of Cigar of the Week, but most likely a Top 10 contender at the end of the year.

Even the burning foot delivers a wonderful aroma of aromatic cedar that smells more like a candle than most cigars I’ve recently smoked.

My first few impressions are of cedar, hay, chocolate, cinnamon, and subtle graham cracker. There’s also a lingering spice that contrasts the sweeter notes perfectly.  Hay and cinnamon exit the scene in a matter of minutes.

There’s an ultra-creamy texture to Mundano’s smoke that puts it in a league of its own, and a nutty expression that reminiscent of smelling discarded pecan shells.  The body appears to be holding strong around the medium category, and I’d imagine the strength will end up being similar in the end.

This particular cigar is very easy to retro hale, providing exquisite notes that I’m perceiving as a vanilla latte, but with almond milk.  Not what I’d order from the Barista, but decidedly complex and complimentary from Mundano.

Past the first inch, a sweeter tone settles in to the regular draw, previously only discovered in the retro hale.  I’m quite fascinated with this cigar, as it’s take on nuttiness is different from what I’m used to.  Whereas I’m normally neutral on nutty tasting notes, the additional vanilla latte-like flavors create a beautiful harmony together.

Interview with Davidoff Cigars

Approaching the midway point and dropping the ash, flavors of dark chocolate, espresso, and aromatic Cedar lead the way.  What a perfect culmination of the last 40 minutes.   Stack more more ash on this cigar and we’ve got a reemergence of the previously mentioned sweeter tasting notes (including cinnamon).  What a ride!

I’ll take my leave here and finish this beauty in solitude.  If you’ve also smoked this cigar, I’d be very curious to hear your thoughts.

Cheers to a wonderful week ahead!

Suggestions

If this cigar sounds like you, I’d highly suggest that you take it for a test drive before they’re gone. There’s something special about the Mundano to this author, and I hope everyone that wants to can experience it for themselves.

I’ve also heard great things about Gusto from our Wisconsin Reviewer with his ear to the ground, so it’ll be next on my list of Must Try Vault Releases.

For a pairing suggestion, I’d probably turn to Dalwhinnie ’15 or a classy Root Beer.  Davidoff suggests Flor de Caña 25 though, and that sounds a lot better!
