Happy Tuesday, amigos!
Thanks to a very observant friend, I was able to switch my plans around tonight to meet Nicholas Melillo at an event nearby. We’ve chatted through email and video a few times now, but I honestly didn’t think I’d see him in person until my schedule aligns with IPCPR. And now he’s heading to my neck of the woods that doesn’t receive a lot of VIPs. How cool is that!?
In honor of getting to shake hands with the Chief of Broadleaf, I wanted to crack open a box of The Wise Man Maduros that haven’t received enough love after my move last year.
My first few puffs are of bitter chocolate, gritty leather, and soft earth. We’re currently missing a sweeter component that I remember when they were first released, and I’m hoping it’ll come back as we burn down a little further.
And look at that burn line! It’s sharp as a razor, lays completely flat along the burning edge, and most importantly looks like it’ll be maintenance-free. Gotta love it when quality materials are placed in the hands of skilled craftspeople to produce a fine cigar.
The sweetness that I was missing at first has begun to manifest itself in The Wise Man, but not how I would’ve expected. I remember something akin to dried fruit, and I’m getting more of a chocolate cookie and espresso combination. A deep, rich impression of espresso up front is washed away in a long finish of – you got it – Grandma’s Chocolate Cookies from the gas station. Lol.

Seems like that’s my cue to stop writing and put my feet up. If you’ve smoked this cigar as well, I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
Cheers to a great week ahead!
Suggestions
Unfortunately, I didn’t follow my own advice with this cigar. I smoked the Robusto (5.5 x 50) and fell in love with it right from the start, resulting in a box purchase before trying the rest of the lineup.
As we discussed in last week’s article 5 Cigars that Prove Size Matters, it’s always advisable to sample the different sizes before committing to a favorite. Luckily, there’s still a Wise Man Maduro sampler available if you haven’t already claimed a preferred size in this cigar. I’ll link it below.
I believe this cigar pairs exceptionally well with Dr. Pepper or, for my high-octane friends, Glenfiddich 18.
