Happy Monday, folks!
Can you believe June is already here and almost halfway over? Seems like it was just yesterday that spring weather was rolling in.
I was chatting with a few co-workers about their favorite cigars, and I heard something that I haven’t heard in a very long time. Someone mentioned that their favorite cigars are Connecticuts, and that they mostly enjoy Connecticut shade wrappers overall. Which brings me to today’s question:
Which wrapper is your favorite?

Of course, this could be construed as a loaded question. I don’t subscribe to the school of thought that the wrapper imparts 70% of the flavor or anything like that, and I believe that some blenders have certain profile goals when working with specific wrappers.
My personal favorite wrapper is Ecuadorian Habano. It’s extremely versatile, and more often than not when I’m smoking something impressive, I look it up to find that it’s using Ecuadorian Habano as a wrapper.
Serino Cigar Co absolutely dominates the Ecuadorian Habano scene, with all of their lines providing different experiences underneath this particular wrapper. I’m not sure exactly what it is that Omar Gonzalez-Aleman does at La Corona, but Serino and the original HR are both produced at his factory with Ecuadorian Habano – and they all smoke amazingly well.
But I’ll admit that it may be more than the wrapper itself that I’m in love with. I’m sure there are profile ranges that each wrapper performs well in, and my favorite wrapper might just be one part of the equation.
The last few years have seen a separation from the norm, especially in cigars wrapped with Connecticut shade. Whereas the traditional Connecticut was once milder with a creamy, nutty, woodsy profile, blenders are bucking convention lately and producing heavy hitting cigars that ‘aren’t your Grandfather’s Connecticut.’
If you’re a huge fan of Connecticut shade cigars as well, I’d also love to hear your thoughts on this growing trend, and your preference!

Ecuadorian Habano is definitely the second choice.
However, Mexican San Andres is starting to make it's way up the list for me. The La Barba Ricochet has changed my perception of San Andres.
Corojo - Probably would be my 2st choice.
Ecuadorian Connecticut Sun Grown would probably be the one that raised my eyebrows also on the Colorado Claro. Gonna dig into those more when the chance presents itself.
Many thanks to everyone else for joining the conversation! Cheers to a great Father's Day and a wonderful week ahead.
