Discussion: Favorite Cigars of 2019 (so far)

Happy Thursday, folks!

Next week I promise we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming with Discussion Contest posts showing up on Monday.  Been traveling since Sunday, and my laptop charger was in the checked bag that inconveniently didn’t arrive when I did.  Thankfully, everything showed up today and we are powered up!

I had to pack a couple 50-ct humidors over the weekend, and once again it was a killer choice.  Do I go with a few of my recent favorites, cigars I haven’t been able to smoke yet, or maybe something that’s got yello cello and I fear may be going over the hill?

Which brings me to today’s discussion question:

What’s your favorite cigar this year?  2019 release, or just something you've enjoyed!

Login and comment for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

While I was packing my travel humidors, the main thing in the back of my head was IPCPR 2019.  I’ll be overseas while the event takes place but I know  there will be tons of releases that I’ll want to try once they drop in the New Arrivals.

So, I split up my humidors into two lines of thought.  One humidor was going to be full of cigars that I’ve really been enjoying lately. Cigars that I can’t imagine getting much better over time.  Cigars that I feel are really in that sweet spot and need the attention of my friends and I this summer.  The other humidor would be a mixed bag of interesting smokes.

Davidoff White Knight

These cigars included the Davidoff White Knight, Foundation’s Tabernacle Havana Seed Ct., Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection, Serino Taino, and Sin Compromiso.  For the most part, I just grabbed a fistful of each and then padded the humidor with bubble wrap to reduce friction. These are the sticks that have really grabbed my attention this year overall, with the White Knight being my absolute favorite 2019 release to date.

Interestingly enough, these brands are the very same that I look forward to seeing news from at IPCPR! If they’re introducing something new, consider my interest piqued to the max.  It just so happened that working backwards brought me right back around to experiencing more of the brands that I look forward to the most.

Not 2019 releases but my favorite new discovery for 2019 are the Illusione Original Documents Natural and the Epernay. Been going to those a lot recently. I was late to that party...

My favorite new discovery thanks to the COTM is Black Works Sindustry which was an absolute flavor bomb but my go to favorite is still the 601 La Bomba.

My favorite I have smoked this year is a Warped Sky Flower from 2016. It was smooth AF. I am not sure I have smoked a new release from 2019 yet, but I do have a box of White Knights I need to break into.

Southern Draw Cedrus

Definitely not a 2019 release, but by far one of the most amazing smokes I've tried this year was a 2009 Viaje Platino Perfecto LE that was gifted to me by a fellow BOTL. Simply epic; the rest turned it into a true masterpiece.

Muestra De Saka Nacatamale by Dunbarton T.T.

The HVC Cerro Maduro has been a 2019 favorite so far.

Hvc la rosa 520 Maduro

As far as 2019 releases, I haven’t really had anything brand new. I liked the 2019 Bishops Blend and S&R. As far as something new to me for this year, I loved the Aladino Corojo Reserva.

Viaje supershot 2019. Even though it’s not my favorite ring gauge by any means, the flavor and strength match perfectly. Viaje has been on a winning streak with TABSA. Can’t wait for TNT.

My favorite is also the White Knight.  Bar None!  Congratulations on a wonderful cigar.

Aganorsa Leaf Signature Selection blew me away this year. I’m trying to get more before they’re gone.

I only started last year, so no 2019 releases specifically, but my favorite I've had this year was probably Blind Man's Bluff. Loved the cedar notes. Perhaps a boring answer to the more experienced among you, but it was a great smoke.

I have enjoyed the white knight as a gift from a friend and was shocked by it. Great smoke. I have also been really amazed by all Davidoff has been planning for releases this year. Can’t wait to pick up the Diademas!

I absolutely love the EPC Encore - what a fine cigar! I have also really enjoyed the Tabernacle Havana Seed Ct; Sin Compromiso; Highclere; and the Illusione Haut 10! Yes, and the Bishop’s Blend!
6/7/2019 1:11 AM
So far I have really enjoyed the Viaje Hamaki and Friends and Family.
6/7/2019 7:30 AM
I hope it will the white night...... taking out a second mortgage to pick up a couple!!!

Surprise favorite was the San Isidro ( sweet baking spice and cream), Aganorsa Signature ( cant wait to try the Maduro) Aladino ( across the board) maybe my favorite has been the box press corona. This years Viaje Supershot, really hit on all the right places. There is a lot in 2019 I'm looking forward to as Vegas gets nearer.
6/7/2019 7:02 PM
My favorites so far are any Bespoke, the Illusione Haut 10 and the Dapper El Borracho. Love the samplers that are available, great way to try new cigars!

My favorite cigar always seems to be the one I just fired up.........
6/8/2019 3:47 PM
I pretty much blew through 2 full bundles of the Viaje Skull & Bones Hulk. They are outstanding, of course, typical of Viaje, I can't get anymore... Sigh. Also, this year's Padron 89th maduro is absolutely great!  Oddly though, my go to is a simple Caldwell Blind Mans Bluff robo.

My favorite cigar from the last year is the LE05 for Avo's 30th anniversary. They are always delicious and at times can be sublime. My favorite for the past few years is Illusione Singulare Annunaki, as it is consistently delicious.

Not a 2019 release, but I had a nice experience at the Nat Sherman shop in NYC last weekend.  Enjoyed a Nat Sherman Timeless Prestige in the small lounge there.  Was a nice little respite from the general craziness of NYC streets.
6/9/2019 1:09 PM
I bought the Sin Compromiso sampler. I had every intention of smoking two and letting the other two rest for a while. A week after I lit the first one up, they were all gone. Best cigar I’ve had in some time!

Congrats, Jeff!  And thanks to everyone else for participating in the conversation!

Watched a vid about top 5 most underrated cigars; great smokes that don't break the piggy.  From this list I chose the Tatuaje Tattoo and it's been my go-to since the first stick.  But the best cigar I've had this year that's in my regular rotation (when it's available) is the Bespoke / Casdagli DOTW robusto.  No downside to DOTW, and it has a horse on the ring gauge label, which my daughter loves.
