Discussion Contest: New Year’s Resolutions

Discussion Contest: New Year’s Resolutions

Happy Thursday, folks!

I hope you had an amazing 2019 and are looking forward to an even better 2020!

What are your New Year’s Resolutions?

Login and comment below for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

I always think that this is both the most humbling and exciting time of the year.  It’s a couple days of reflection and planning that, when done right, can really set the tone for a long time.  Not always the entire year, but that’s a whole ‘nother discussion in and of itself.

For me, I’d like to focus yet again on more Interviews with the brands that are shaping the climate of today’s cigar world.  This was my focus for the last two years, and somehow I always manage to ride the wave in spurts.  Sometimes we’ll string several awesome interviews together, and others I let the ball drop for weeks and months at a time.  I’ll be sure to get on it again and keep the good times rollin’!

I’d also like to focus more on video for 2020.  It’s time consuming, but the payoff is so worth it!  And, I can replay videos like the interview we did with Andrew and the Small Batch Crew to instantly be taken back two the best vacation of my life.  For 2020, my goal is to bring you many more faces in action!

Kinda related: get ready for some 2019 close out posts!  We're talking about the Editor's Choice Top 10 Awards, Top 10 Blind Reviews, and the Most Popular Awards!

This year I’m committing to a few things (none of which are necessarily cigar-related). First is to spend more time with God, so that I can be made more like him and have what I need to navigate being a husband and now a father. Next is to resist the temptation to procrastinate, wherever it shows up in its many forms. Third is to get out of my comfort zone more often and engage with others.

Cheers to a fruitful 2020!

I want to smoke more cigars (obviously) and be more adventurous with new brands and styles!

Jeez, where to start?

First off, I need to get back down to my normal weight. Ever since my surgery 6 months ago, I've gained 30 lbs. I need to lose this again.

Secondly, I want to catch more fish. I've begun fishing as a new past time and it has me hooked *ba-dum-dum*. I suck, but smoking a cigar while fishing is great fun.

Lastly, I have 3 cigar goals. I want to smoke the entire Casdagli/Bespoke line, Stolen Throne line up, and Warped Bits of Havana. Oh, and also take notes of cigars for my personal catalog.

Cigar wise, my resolutions are: to learn more about tobacco and its history, geography, and characteristics; smoke less but smoke better cigars; and to introduce more people to the wonderful world of cigars.

As for cigars: I want to expand my knowledge on cigars and tobacco and try brands I haven’t before or have avoided without giving them a fair shake.

As for personal life: my word for the year is “relax”. I stress about everything and it causes me a lot of grief when it really shouldn’t. So my goal is manage stress better.

Getting back into the gym is No 1 priority!

After that, I plan on investing myself in my hobby which is bowhunting whitetail deer 100% this year.

Other than, just strive to be a great father, husband and friend.

I'd like to explore a lot more boutique cigars in 2020.  The quality of the boutique cigars I've tried are tough to beat and usually don't get the recognition they deserve. As a new lover of the leaf I'd like to try many more to enjoy and also recommend to others who enjoy cigars who may not have heard of some of the many great boutique companies.

For this year I have two main resolutions. First of all, I resolve to become more physically fit and put on more muscle. I know this is cliche, everyone vows to be in the gym more, but I sincerely mean that. My other resolution involves my career. I hope to take major steps this year in advancing my career and moving forward on the path to achieving my dream of becoming an airline captain. I hope to have a few good cigars with me along the way ;)

I’m taking note of the wrapper, binder, and filler of every cigar I like/dislike to hopefully have a better understanding of my preferences.  I’d like to come out with a cigar in 2030 so it’s time to start getting serious about cigars!

Read less on my tablet right before bed and hopefully get more sleep.  Usually I'm reading cigar reviews.

Cell phones have consumed everybody’s life. I have five-year-old twins and every time I take them to the park I walk around and every single parent is looking at their phone instead of their child. My resolution is to look at my phone less and enjoy life by actually looking at it.  While smoking a cigar of course. It’s hard to correct a burn while holding a cell phone anyway.

2020 is gonna be the year to better educate everyone on current legislation and regulation.  I’m going to personally try and make sure all the smokers that I know have an idea of what is going on with new regs on premium tobacco and how we can support the industry.

Smoke more great cigars!

Enjoy cigars more! Get the garage cleaned out by getting rid of the stuff we don't need or use anymore. Work on Organization skills more.

This year I would like to eat healthier and exercise more. Also, find enjoyment in my work.

I am planning on taking the time this year to be more introspective and thoughtful both in how I treat myself and others. I plan to do this by exploring more activities that I enjoy and building stronger relationships with the people I care about in my life!

I want to experiment more with pairings with my cigars when it comes to food and beverages. Water is great when trying new sticks, but after getting familiar with it, is to then try out different combinations and see what works.
