Discussion Contest: What Would You Like to Read in 2020?

Discussion Contest: What Would You Like to Read in 2020?

Happy Monday, folks!

I hope everyone is having a great start to the new year and are gearing up for an even better finish! To make sure that we touch on topics that are relevant to you, I wanted to start with this question:

What would you like to read in 2020?

Login and drop a comment below for a chance to win a Small Batch gift card this Sunday!

Maybe you’ve got a particular problem that you’d like solved, or maybe your curiosity is piqued about something that you can’t find on the internet.  As far and wide as the internet has answers, information seems to be rather shallow at times.

Here’s what we’re planning so far this year:

  •      More Interviews
  •      Additional Tasting Explorations and Packs (like this)
  •      Consensus Answers from Insiders (like this)
  •      More Video (like this)

If we don’t know the answer to your question, I’ll reach out to folks in the industry until we get what we’re looking for.  If there seems to be some controversy like with our Medio Tiempo post, I’ll gather and post multiple answers.

DISCUSSION CONTEST DETAILS

I’ll be randomly selecting a comment below this Sunday after sending out the Weekly Newsletter. The winner can expect a comment with his or her name in it, a congratulations email, and an email with the $25 gift card information.  The actual gift card email takes some time to generate from the system and may lag behind by up to 48 hours.

Only available to U.S. customers. (Sorry!)

Definitely more interviews

Can we have all the above? I think the information that Nick provided is invaluable, the opinions of experts/insiders is always interesting, and tasting explorations have helped me choose what cigars to try.

The tasting note samplers and explorations have really helped a novice smoker like me find identify these notes much better.

More reviews (and consensus answers).  I’d actually like to see a review section from consumers (such as myself) for lines or individual cigars.  Not just basic either where you could see “great smoke”, but have to give some information on flavors and construction, burn, etc...

I'd like to see more interviews with cigar personalities (blenders, brand owners, sales reps) and more articles about the day to day of running both an online business and B&M.

All of these comments are great ideas. I’d like to see some more discussion on how we can not only grow our consumer base but also educate and bring together the already existing group of consumers in order to create a more united front in the face of regulation.

Id like a tasting note competition "pack". I don't recognize names here, so what do I have to lose! My pallet, is a mess anyways. Or a "Beat the Blind Review Team" competition. Maybe a "New vs. Old Pack" older versions/ newer versions where we can taste any differences or if aging the cigars did any good.

I'll keep on reading reviews as usual but would love to see more info from the blenders and and brand owners themselves. Wish news on current Cuban production was easier to obtain too.

I think it would be cool to see some type of series. Really digging into tobacco of "X" varietal or cigars out of "X" factory. I have been watching a lot of youtube videos that dive deep into a certain thing and have been finding them very entertaining.

I would like to see more interviews or descriptions detailing what contributions are made in collaborations. Consumers are drawn to the fact that 2 or 3 of their favorite blenders worked together, but rarely know what was done. I’m starting to think it’s more...1 blenders tobacco source and the others factory. But we end up paying both blenders. Any additional info will be greatly appreciated.

Would be interesting to read about random cigar facts (i.e. their history, prominent people who enjoyed them, if they were tied to any significant historical event, etc.).

I would like to read about the identity of the major tobacco farms which produce a lot of the cigars we smoke.  I am not well versed, but it seems like many of the top blenders have a handful of “go to” farms. Where are they and who are they?

I know it’s been done before but some kind of cigar related March Madness contest could be cool.

I like reading the interviews. I also like the cigar comparison articles. And I think some more tobacco/cigar education articles would be a great addition.

You guys are doing a great job. More interviews would be great!

I like the consensus answers and the tasting packs!

Have enjoyed everything so far, but the newly added video interviews have been very informative. Would love to see more in the near future!

These two:
Additional Tasting Explorations and Pack
Consensus Answers from Insiders

and I second what Kyle said.

I'd like to read Doors of Stone.

Seriously though an article on dealing with burn issues might be nice.

Prices are getting out of hand....quality
of the products are not! Way too much hype on new announcements and
suspect expert comments: the scores
by far do not reflect the experience.
Interviews need more "hard questions" and less "legend". What say you?

It would be nice to have more reviews, especially a review section from consumers. Adding more tasting packs is a great idea. I always enjoy purchasing those so I can try out different cigars.

I definitely look forward to more posts about tastes and packs of them. While I tend to favor some makers over most others right now, I always like to keep my options open if something comes along that sparks my interest.

Congrats Brian!  And thanks to everyone else for the input!  Cheers to a great 2020 :D
