A while back, we hosted a tasting event with Davidoff’s U.S. Brand Ambassador Jeff Stone. In the Q&A portion, he mentioned the Davidoff Aniversario No. 3 as being a bolder counterpart to the No. 2, and my interest was immediately piqued!

I’m quarantining in transit currently, and the Aniversario No. 3 has been a staple for me over the last few days since I can only use soft flame lighters. Some cigars really shine from the extra time and care it takes to use a Bic lighter, and the No. 3 can definitely be counted among them. I’m burning my last one on hand today, and it will be missed!
My first few impressions are of homemade whipped cream, subtle cedar, and peppercorn that continues to linger as I write this sentence. It’s that little bit of attitude that really sets this cigar off, creating that push and pull effect of creamy, slightly sweet notes versus peppercorn’s spicy nature.
If you’ve followed my previous Cigar of the Week picks, you’ll notice that this is my favorite thing about cigars: a contrasting flavor profile that produces a complex sensation and hits my palate in waves. The Davidoff Aniversario No. 3 is such a cigar.
Rather than experience the Davidoff hay upfront, I get it later on with faint hints of earth. It’s accompanied by subtle milk chocolate notes and hazelnut as well, and the finish has added a touch of sweetened coffee to the lingering spice.
Maybe it’s what I’ve been smoking lately or my recent travels to a completely different environment, but this particular cigar has been much spicier than I remember from a few years ago. I switched to smoking the No. 2 Aniversario almost exclusively over the last few years, and now I’m seeing my mistake!
Through the nose, I get a heavier dose of pepper, muted notes akin to flower stems, and something sweeter that reminds me of a waffle cone. While this isn’t the gentlest Davidoff to retro hale, it’s highly rewarding if you too opt for a waffle cone when you patronize fine ice cream establishments.
All in all, I’ve come to love this cigar lately – especially since I started quarantine in a dry area. In the absence of whiskey, the Aniversario is a gratifying smoking experience that pairs very well with coffee, tea, and clear sodas.
And if you enjoy a good aroma from your resting cigar, this one is pretty unique… I can’t describe it properly, except to say that you’ve got to experience it for yourself! Reminds me of a savory potato soup into the second half.
Tell us! What are your thoughts on the Davidoff Aniversario No. 3?
