Happy Wednesday, amigos!
Let me just say this: the Las Calaveras 2020 is undoubtedly my favorite first impression from the Las Calaveras line to date. Sometimes I take my time to come around to one of these annual limited editions, and sometimes it hits just right off the bat... But the latest release is my favorite expression of Las Calaveras so far without a year or more of rest.
My personal preference is the medium ring gauge. The LC52 weighs in at 5 x 52 and is the flagship size to me, offering the perfect balance of strength and flavor. It’s also great as a baseline because you can treat it like your daily coffee: if you want an extra shot, step down to the LC48 size. And if you want a little less octane, step up to the LC56.

Today, I’m smoking the LC48 (5 ½ x 48) because as luck would have it… I’m all out of the LC52s!
My initial impressions are of pepper, malted chocolate, a touch of earth, a pinch of peanut shell, and hints of leather. I’ve found that this cigar exhibits a rustic quality up front (gritty leather) and then transitions into softer nuances as time goes on.
It’s like you get a few stages of the tasting notes above represented in various ways. For instance, here the chocolate tastes like hints of Whoppers, later it’ll taste like watered down Swiss Miss cocoa, and eventually it’ll hit mocha notes before calling it a day.
If you’re a fan of the last year’s Las Calaveras, I’m really curious to hear what you think about this year’s expression! The 2019 is firing on all cylinders right now, but my first few impressions of the 2020 make it a standout in the line for me.
Tell Us! What are your thoughts on the Crowned Heads Las Calaveras 2020?
Editor's Note: I was really hoping that I'd be able to get this up before we sold out of these. Oops!
